Privacy Policy

Subty ("we", "our", or "us") is a subtitle search, download, and translation app for Android. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the app.

1. Information We Do Not Ask For

Subty does not require a user account and does not ask for your name, email address, contacts, photos, precise location, or media library.

2. App Diagnostics and Usage Events

Subty does not use Firebase, advertising SDKs, or a hosted analytics/telemetry service in this release. Search, download, and translation history is stored locally on your device.

3. Third-Party Services

Subty uses third-party services to search titles and find or download subtitles. These services are governed by their own privacy policies:

• OpenSubtitles API - subtitle search and download. Privacy Policy.
• SubDL API - subtitle search and download.
• Screwzira / ktuvit.me - optional Hebrew-focused subtitle source when enabled.
• TMDB API - title lookup and posters. Privacy Policy.
• Google ML Kit on-device Translation - downloads language models and translates subtitles on your device.

When you search for subtitles, your search query, selected title, language, season, episode, and related identifiers may be sent to subtitle and title providers. Subtitle translation is performed on your device after the required language models have been downloaded.

4. Local Storage

Subty stores the following data locally on your device:

• Search and translation history
• App settings, such as preferred languages and display options
• Downloaded subtitle files saved to your device

Most of this data remains on-device. When you use network features, relevant request data is sent directly to the selected third-party provider.

5. Permissions

Subty requests the following Android permissions:

• INTERNET - required to search and download subtitles and to download optional on-device language models.
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC - used to continue translation while the app is in the background.
• POST_NOTIFICATIONS - used to show translation progress notifications on Android 13 and newer.
• READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - used for compatibility with older Android versions when opening subtitle files.
• WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - used for compatibility with older Android versions when saving subtitle files.

6. Children's Privacy

Subty is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating this page or through the app when appropriate.
